Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinics

Occasionally, you may find an injured, sick, or starving shorebird or seabird on the beach. Please contact the nearest wildlife rehabilitation clinic as soon as possible. Use the interactive map below to find a clinic near you. Be prepared to provide important details on the condition and location of the bird. For additional contact info (e.g. phone number), call 1-888-404-FWCC (3922).

Note: If an injured bird needs immediate attention, handle the larger species of seabirds (e.g. pelicans, gannets, cormorants) and waterbirds (e.g. herons, egrets) with extreme caution and wear protective eyewear.

Roof-top Colonies

Least Terns and Black Skimmers regularly nest on buildings with gravel roof-tops in colonies of varying size. Relative to a beach, a roof-top colony may receive less disturbance from people, pets, and vehicles. However, once the eggs hatch and the chicks are mobile, new hazards arise. Chicks can fall off the edge of the roof, get blown off, or get washed down the gutters. Most chicks reach the ground unscathed, and can be returned to the roof-top, but some get injured and a wildlife rehabilitation clinic may be their best option.
